The Eckerle pump is the key component to unlocking potential energy recovery in forklifts. Their close relationship is built upon two unique technical features of the Eckerle design:

• Inherent Reversibility

The potential energy recovery method involves driving hydraulic oil with backpressure (Note 4) to flow backward through the original channel to reverse the pump. This turns the pump into a "hydraulic motor," which drives the motor to act as a "generator" and recharge the battery. If a standard external gear pump is forced to reverse, it will likely suffer catastrophic damage. The internal gear pump is engineered to safely handle reverse operation, clearing the first and most critical hardware hurdle for energy recovery.

Note 4: Backpressure refers to the resistance or pressure exerted opposite to the primary direction of fluid flow in a hydraulic system.

• High Torque Output at Low Speeds Maximizes Efficiency

Even if other pumps can reverse, their recovery efficiency is often poor. Traditional pumps typically need to reach speeds of 500 to 800 RPM before they can do effective work, resulting in abysmal energy recovery rates (potentially as low as 5% or even less).

In contrast, the internal gear pump features an exceptionally wide effective speed range; it can start outputting power at just 100 RPM, and can even output 70% to 80% of its power at ultra-low speeds of 30 to 50 RPM. This ability to maintain high efficiency at extremely low rotational speeds allows systems equipped with Eckerle pumps to capture significantly more potential energy, achieving an outstanding recovery efficiency of 25% to 40%.
